Proverbial proverbial

Updates:

- Still have bronchitis, but the tussin is soothing my insides. I still think it's funny that I caught it.

- Still working at the shit job for 12+ hours in a day usually.

- Saw James "Dawson's creeking, rules of attracting, motherfuckin'" Van Der Beek and Johnathan Silverman with cakehappens at a really dirty bar last night. Dawson has a potty mouth. I wish I could have somehow played some Paula Cole on the jukebox during the moment, but I was afraid that I'd be that guy who got his ass kicked by Dawson Leary and his group of B-actor cronies. I wonder if he's still sponsered by J-Crew.

- This week will be better since wifey will be in town from the Bay Area. It's nice to have someone who appreciates pre-processed meat products as much as I do. I'll be part of Team Whipped Forever temporarily and I apologize for that in advance.

- I have yet to get my degree from Santa Barbara. I think I'll stop by in the fall to get my $20,000+ piece of paper.

Hi.

My dad was just telling me over the phone that my grandfather had called this week. He told my dad that the fidelity of my grandmother's memory had worsened significantly as of late.

He then told my dad how she began mentioning a picture of herself that was taken when she in her 20's. Pointing, she asked my grandfather who the person in the photograph was and why the portrait was hanging in living room.

I wonder if she'll recognize the lenient cheekbones and reedy slouch I inherited from her. I wonder if she'll remember me at all. I wonder what will I think if she asks me who I am; that all her memories that once conjoined together to portend the meaning of family have somehow failed her. Whether she recognizes me or not, I'll still tell her why I'm sitting by her side on the bench. That nutwood bench near the bank, down by the river that she once pulled me out of when my bantam toddler fingers reached out too far to grab a bristly weed.

Tonight, I shared pitchers of doppleboch with my old SB friend Christopher Day. We had debates about the substantiality of post-punk vs. post-rock, Elvis stealing from underrated black blues musicians, Beck being wiggerish, how My Bloody Valentine can make you want to slit your achilles tendons so you'll never walk away the speakers, Holy Molar, and how hot Emily Haines is.

For the last two years, I really hated this place. Even tonight, we talked about how we wanted to have a "punch a random brah in the dick" day. Now, I think I might actually miss this place after I graduate this quarter. On top of having new friends, it just hit me that I was surrounded by a collective of good people while I was up here that I never appreciated. Now, I have to come back to LA and start all over again. I don't mind it though, I mean I already go to shows by myself. I just feel bad for taking people for granted here in Goleta.

Goodbye, Santa Bro-brah. May every burrito be endowed with bounteous mounds of guacamole, beef and caloric gaiety.

Currently in the process of submitting my full length script to various contests. After this week I can start doing other things, like working on that collaborative short script.

I came home for the weekend and the upstairs piping exploded. Its difficult to study for my Francophone cinema class because of the dripping. This place is just falling apart lately.

On another note, Pen-Ek Ratanaruang has already finished primary shooting at Phuket a while back for his next film "Invisible Waves"...or "Invisible Wave" (I don't know the official name yet). The gang from "Last Life in the Universe" is back (Chris Doyle as DP, Prabda Yoon as scriptwriter, Asano Tadanobu acting). I read about the film a while back but I was busy with my theory class to post about it. Old news.

Here's a link.

And for people who are tired of cockfighting

Ich bin ein berserker, weibchen

So yesterday, I went to State Street to watch a Dirty Shame in SB. I've been battling a flu and an earache for the last week. The earache is the worst because whenever I talk or swallow, the pain train makes a short stop at my station. Anyway, so I bought some earache drops at RiteAid and I go to the Barnes and Noble bookstore restroom stall to put them in. I had to stand there, with my head leaned to the left so the drops would get really deep inside me, for 10 minutes. I walk out of there, and I'm apprehended by the store clerk. She tells me that somebody had told her that somebody of my description had been writing graffiti in the restroom. So I'm like, what the fuck? I don't even like writing on paper. So I had to explain to her that I was putting in earache drops and that I had to stand there for 10 minutes. In the process of explaining to her, the pain in my ear just kept building upon itself to the point where "Berserker Roy" surfaced. After telling her about the earache drops, I justly asked her who the fuck accused me of graffiti, which is so fucking 1990. I wanted to beat this assuming asshole with their thick hardcover volumes of Tom Clancy and Dean Koontz novels. She wouldn't tell me, so I kept asking because my Berserker rage wouldn't allow me to let this dipshit go. How the fuck did he assume that I was doing graffiti? I was in the damn bathroom stall. Did the dumbass kneel down and look, hoping to see my Royrizo? Anyway, I was escorted out of the Barnes and Noble in the end. I bet everybody there was scared of my Berserker tendencies. Motherfuckers.

But the horse and the hippo; thats a hard one."
Guy: "But with the horse, the hooves would dig into your back.
We should have a brainfuck movie fest. Nothing cute, nothing endearing, and for fucks sake no Nick Hornby based shit either. Just films that are an incomprehensible assault on the mind and senses. I'm talking about Miike, Lynch, Cronenberg, Tsukamoto etc. The deep penetration! It'll be a remedy to all the bad American movies that came out this summer (I'm Natalie Portman! Listen to The Shins! It'll change your life! It'll even cure syphilis!). Maybe we can squeeze in Cuong's movie of pee just to lighten the mood after Videodrome or Eraserhead.

I have to pass an Urban Outfitters every time I try to go to the record store and each time I walk by, something on their display booth offends me. First, it was the Flaming Lips Yoshimi shirts. Apparently, anything with kanji on it is "in". Then, there were these plastic chinese slippers that they charged something like 15 dollars for. I've seen these slippers at a Vietnamese market for 2 bucks.

Recently, I walked by wearing a pair of black tex twill polyester pants, when I saw the exact same pair sitting behind their window display. I had bought these pants for 15 dollars at a thrift store. They were charging $49.00. I stood there looking at the window, somewhat upset.

I even let out a loud "Oh fucking hell". Its not about the ambiguous precepts involving somebody's personal style, at least not for me (although I'm sure other people are pissed at Urban Outfitters for selling shit that they spent hours looking for at thrift/vintage stores, now on sale for an obscene price). Its about commodification. $49.00?? Thats exploitation. It irks me. I want to pee on everything in that place, including the store clerks with their leather wrist bands and jesus shirts. Consumer whore-ism is okay, until it subsidizes your closet. I just don't want someone asking "Did you get those at Urban Outfitters?". That would be very upsetting. Its a shame, because the pants are stretchy so I can pull off some David Lee Roth kicks.

Just a petty thing to complain about. Things could be worse. What if I was a Ryan Adams fan? Then there would be absolutely no reason to live. Norbert and Esther would probably write something funny on my headstone too. It would probably say "Whoa, do you know this guy? Like, here lies Roy. Holy shit, no fucking way! You're my wonderwall!".

Got this from a website. Its not bad. I wish I knew how to make some kind of frosting for it though:

Green Tea Cake

Green tea powder "maccha" 2 tsp (or as much as you like.)
Flour 1 cup
Sugar 1 cup
Baking powder 1/2 tsp
Egg white (powder) 1/3 cup or 1 Egg
Salt 1/4 tsp
Skim milk (powder) 1/2 cup
Water 1+1/4 cup

Set oven temperature at 350F degrees.
1. Mix all ingredients (excluding the water) into a bowl.
2. Mix them damn well.
3. Add 1 + 1/4 cup of water and gradually and gently stir.
4. Pour into a pan and decorate with slices of bananas (as you like.)
5. Bake at 350 degrees for approx. 30 minutes.

*Serve with green tea or post-coital despondency.

Trocchi's book, "Young Adam", is being filmed starring Ewan MacGregor. He better not screw up.

I'm going to dinner with my screenwriting professor next week. He says if I want to make money, I should start writing horror screenplays because South America and Asia are apparently into horror films right now. He also says that he misses his soul. He used to be a novelist in Berkeley, but after getting a full ride to AFI he became a screenwriter. He calls me "Oriental" for fun. I don't complain about it. I sort of like it.

Anything happening Sunday? I wanted to do something fun before I have to finish my 110 page script. Instead of MAOIs, I endulge in escapism.

She always wanted straight hair, so she had to cut it short. Much shorter than before. Shoulder/neck length. She says it doesn't hurt anymore when she brushes her hair because nothing gets caught in it. Not even the unmindful taction of a jaunty hand; fingertips now slide easily through these unsubstantial, russet hued enthrallments. She told me that she wanted to keep her hair this way because nothing gets caught or tangled, so its easier to manage.
